Wanderers continued their promotion charge with a convincing win against Queen's
Head.
The Blues started well and were celebrating a goal after just ten minutes.
Jamie Ryall showed good skill on the right, and his cross to Tom Soane was diverted into the net by a Queen's Head defender.
Minutes later Wanderers were denied a second goal by a dubious offside call.
The supply this time came from the left as Anthony Prior evaded two challenges and crossed for Soane to hit home.
Wanderers didn't have to wait too long before extending their advantage though.
Ryall was bundled over just inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Having not scored previously in the
season, Darren Wakley was given the opportunity to open his tally with the penalty, and did so with a well struck effort to
the 'keeper's left.
A third goal followed as Wokingham continued to dominate the half, Tom Soane
grabbing a deserved goal with a powerful shot across the goalkeeper and into the far corner of the net.
Clearly inspired by fellow full-back Wakley's goalscoring exploits, Andy Corless
ventured forward and looped a twenty yard left-footed shot onto the top of the crossbar.
It was then Tom Soane's turn to go close as Ryall stood a perfect cross up
to the far post and the Wanderers' forward headed wide.
Soane collected his second of the game just before the break. A counter-attack
following a Queen's Head corner saw Falcus find Prior. Prior ran clear and slid in to shoot at the onrushing goalkeeper.
The shot was parried to the right and Soane had the simple task of rolling into the net.
The second-half was a much tighter affair and Wanderers struggled to extend
their advantage.
It was the visitors who struck the first goal of the second period.
Nick Harding ran towards the right touchline to chase down a throughball and was dispossessed, giving the Queen's Head forward
an empty goal to shoot into.
The four goal winning margin was restored with a strike from captain Dave
Griffiths with twenty minutes remaining. A corner from the right found its way to Griffiths, who finished calmly with
good close control.
Substitute Paul Martin twice hit the woodwork in the closing stages, before
Darren Wakley was incorrectly sent-off for supposed dissent.
This was a comprehensive win for Wokingham, and was essential in maintaining
the Blues' push for promotion.
