Wanderers put in
a gritty second half performance to claim the points, after it seemed that they could be heading for a club record fourth
successive defeat.
The Blues welcomed
back Mark Timms in goal, who had been absent from the three previous defeats.
In the opening minutes
it became clear that 3M were intent on defending in numbers, and the Blues' opponents favoured a direct path to goal.
At the other end Paul Martin and Tom Soane were full of running, but had only one chance between them as Martin's low shot
was well saved.
After twenty minutes,
the blinding sun looked to be a factor as a 3M corner bounced around in the box before being turned beyond Timms from six
yards out.
The Blues rallied,
but still could not produce much in the way of openings and trailed at half time.
In the second half
Wanderers improved their performance, and on several occasions only a dubious offside call denied both Martin and Tom Soane.
Set pieces represented
the best chance of Wokingham drawing level. Anthony Prior and Ian Griffiths sent in some good deliveries from both wings,
but 3M were able to clear on each occasion.
With thirty minutes
remaining Prior struck a free-kick just wide of the upright, and it looked as though the Blues could be frustrated in their
efforts to avoid defeat.
There were still
twenty five minutes to go as Jamie Ryall and Lewis Trusty joined fellow substitute Darren Wakley on the field.
Wokingham pushed
on, and 3M were feeling the pressure as they conceded several free kicks in dangerous positions.
Finally, with just
over ten minutes on the clock, Wanderers equalised. The ball was half-cleared to Prior, close to the corner flag.
Having evaded one challenge he ran towards goal and squared the ball for Martin to side-foot into the corner of the net.
Having got themselves
back on level terms, Wanderers searched for the winning goal which their determination had merited.
It arrived with just
three minutes left. Tom Soane took a quick throw-in to Prior, who then played the ball back to the Wanderers' forward.
Soane crossed for Ian Griffiths, and he fired a deflected shot beyond the goalkeeper at the second attempt.
This should be the
turning point in Wokingham's season, and victory against Finchampstead 'A' next week will help the Blues enjoy the festive
period all the more.
