Wanderers tasted defeat for the second successive week, following a below
par performance and incompetent refereeing.
The Blues started more positively, and had the better of the first twenty
five minutes. Phil Soane linked up well with brother Tom, with the latter having a few off-target shots from distance.
At the other end, Royal Hunt's direct style of play threatened Wanderers on
a long pitch. However they too were reduced to a few shots off target in the opening period. Mark Timms was then
alert to rush from his goal and collect the ball, after another lofted pass over the Blues' back four.
Ten minutes before the break, Royal Hunt took the lead. A move on the
right seemed to have been thwarted by an Anthony Prior tackle, but the Hunt midfielder got a cross in. Timms' uncharacteristic
poor handling was punished as the ball was tapped in from a yard out.
The second half saw Wanderers get over-run at times, with key challenges not
won.
On the hour mark, Wanderers were denied an equaliser when Tom Soane was questionably adjudged
to have fouled a defender before firing home.
Soon after, the home side extended their lead as a counter-attack saw a cross
from the right fired in low to Timms' left.
Wanderers changed to a 3-5-2 formation, with Lewis Trusty and Clint Falcus
replacing Dave Griffiths and Phil Soane.
Royal Hunt continued to apply pressure, and were only denied a third goal
by Chris Orbell's excellent clearance off the line.
With ten minutes remaining, Wanderers were left fuming at weak refereeing
decisions. First Prior was fouled inside the area, and then Ian Griffiths was prevented from shooting by a clear handball.
The referee, some forty yards from play on both occasions, decided not to give either decision.
