Wanderers rounded off their pre-season with a convincing victory against fourth
division GMAC RFC FC.
The Blues didn’t take long to create chances in the game, as Anthony
Prior, Darren Wakley and Chris Orbell all had efforts saved, whilst Dan van der Laan O’Donnell clipped the bar with
a header.
Wanderers took the lead after twelve minutes, following great work on the
right from Ian Griffiths. Griffiths looked to have taken the
ball too far, but cut an excellent cross back for Tom Soane to tap in at the far post.
The lead was extended minutes later as Paul Martin beat his man before cutting
back, for Griffiths to prod the ball home from close range.
Wokingham dominated the rest of the half, and further chances fell to Soane
and Martin. Wakley and Falcus worked hard in the midfield, whilst Mark Timms
was only called into action once, as he claimed a through-ball.
On the stroke of half-time Wanderers made it 3-0, as van der Laan O’Donnell
headed home Prior’s in-swinging corner.
Tom Mansfield was introduced at half-time in place of Falcus, as Jamie Ryall
reverted back to centre-midfield. He and Wakley helped to control the play in
a one-sided second half.
Further chances followed for the Blues, with Tom Soane smashing a great effort
into the side-netting.
With twenty minutes remaining, Mansfield moved into midfield and
was soon celebrating a goal. Martin’s excellent work on the right ended
with a cross over the goalkeeper for “Chunk” to head into the empty net.
Martin’s hard work was rewarded again five minutes later, as Orbell
set him up to stroke the ball home.
So with the start of the season is just one week away, Wanderers have shown
quality in all three of their friendlies and will hope that the campaign can end with another promotion.
