Another week and yet another away league match for the Blues, this time against
lowly Ashridge Park.
From the first whistle, Wanderers threatened the Ashridge Park goal. The only
response Ashridge seemed to have to Tom Soane's pace was to make some very dubious offside calls.
Wanderers were 3-0 up by the 25th minute as their dominance told. Scott
Ford fed Soane for the first, as the Blues' top-scorer's shot went through the 'keeper and into the net.
Ford then headed into the path of Paul Martin, who took an excellent touch
to control the ball before taking it around the onrushing Ashridge goalkeeper and shooting home.
Within a minute of the restart Soane scored his second after Ian Griffiths
had passed to him. Soane took aim from 25 yards and the shot beat the 'keeper at his near post.
As Wanderers played out the half, they had further chances to extend the lead.
Griffiths had a shot saved before he and then Scott Ford saw efforts cleared off the line.
The Blues were perhaps a little complacent going into the second half, and
were unable to extend their advantage in the opening period. On the hour mark they were shocked by their opponents as
Allan Mellor was beaten when the Ashridge forward ran through unchallenged. In trying to stop the goal, Mellor
was injured and after a short delay he could not continue. Dan van der Laan O'Donnell went in goal, with Clint Falcus
coming on in place of Mellor.
Wanderers raised their game and it was only a matter of time before they added
to their tally. After a goalmouth scramble following a corner, Anthony Prior passed to substitute Tom Mansfield who
unleashed a fierce pea-roller into the bottom corner.
Paul Martin then made if five with his second goal. Tom Soane ran down
the right wing to cross for Martin to slide the ball home.
It was almost 6-1 in the closing minutes when Andy Corless' header clipped
the top of the bar, but there were no further goals and Wanderers celebrated another league victory.
