Wanderers made it two wins from two with a convincing win over a young Priestwood
Predators side.
Within minutes of the kick-off it was apparent that Priestwood were intending
to play a long-ball style, which Andy Corless and Dan van der Laan O'Donnell dealt with effectively for the whole 90 minutes.
In the opening twenty minutes Wanderers failed to produce much in the way
of chances, although Tom Soane's pace and persistence caused the Priestwood defence countless problems. When the first
goal did arrive, on twenty five minutes, it was no surprise that it came through Soane. Ian Griffiths made a run down
the right wing before crossing to the far post, where Soane scrambled the ball over the line.
Wokingham were 2-0 up before the break, following a good passing move.
Captain Chris Orbell released Anthony Prior on the left, who beat his man before crossing for Soane to pass to Matthew Elliott.
Elliott's shot hit the post but went back into the net via the goalkeeper's head.
At half-time Scott Ford and Lewis Trusty were introduced in place of the hardworking
Jamie Ryall and Tom Mansfield.
In the second period Priestwood came back into the game a little more, as
they tried to play the ball on the ground. Allan Mellor was tested with a few shots, but proved reliable to preserve
his clean sheet.
Tom Soane added Wanderers' third and final goal after first he, and then Trusty
had shots saved by the Priestwood goalkeeper. Further chances fell to Griffiths, Soane, Trusty and Prior but the Blues
could not add to their tally.
Maximum points from their first two matches suggests that Wanderers will enjoy
a successful season. The reassurance that the best is yet to come from the Blues inspires much confidence.
