17th April 2003 - Division 4 - Langborough Rec.

Wokingham Wanderers entertained Bracknell Strikers Reserves in an edgy match, which followed their controversial defeat the last time the sides met.

They started without much confidence, as passes went astray and communication was limited.  Bracknell took the lead with a neat low finish beyond Alan Mellor following a defensive lapse.

Wanderers hit back quickly and equalised when Scott Ford found Anthony Prior who controlled well, turned his marker and hit a shot from 20 yards.  The Bracknell keeper got a hand to Priors drive but could only help the ball into the corner of the net.

Wokingham threatened with the pace of Prior and Tom Soane in attack but the closest they came to scoring again in the first half was through Fords 30 yard lob which drifted over the crossbar.

At half-time Alan Pearce came on to replace Lewis Trusty.  Pearce took the place of Ryall on the left wing, who moved into the middle alongside Ford.

Within minutes of the restart Wanderers came closer still as Clint Falcus superb pass found Prior who could only drag his snapshot wide of the Bracknell goal.

When the second goal arrived it was one of quality.  Scott Ford knocked the ball to Tom Soane who did well to direct the ball towards Prior.  Instinctively Prior let the ball bounce up and volleyed in off the post from 25 yards out.

Shortly afterwards, Tom Soane came close as he tricked his way past two defenders only to shoot into the side-netting.

Mark Devenny came on for the tired Phil Soane and as a result Chris Orbell moved to left back.

Devenny had an immediate impact, latching on to Priors pass to cross well for Pearce who forced the Bracknell defender to head towards his own goal and luckily into the hands of his goalkeeper.

Wanderers final substitution saw Owen Holland replace Prior enabling Pearce to move into attack, and put further pressure on the Bracknell defence.

Wokingham deserved the win but five minutes from time Bracknell equalised when a controversial free-kick hit the crossbar and the rebound was blasted beyond Alan Mellor.  Mellor had performed heroics in keeping Wanderers in the lead and the equaliser was undeserved.
