Wanderers could only manage to field ten players at the start of this match
against Emmbrook Inn.
Ian Griffiths arrived to play twenty minutes into the game, despite having
a painful ankle injury.
Emmbrook Inn sensed an opportunity to score a few goals but were frustrated
in the early stages of the game. Wokingham had a luck escape as Peter Killingworth dropped a shot from distance, but
Lewis Trusty was on hand to hack away the ball.
The home side seemed to grow a little frustrated at their failure to break
the deadlock. The first goal did come after eighteen minutes although it owed a lot to good fortune as a free-kick was
deflected beyond Killingworth.
A second goal followed minutes later as a looping volley beat Killingworth
and made the Blues' task a very difficult one. Though the scoreline remained the same going into the break.
The second-half was to prove highly frustrating for Wanderers. The loss
of Christ Hillsdon and Phil Soane to injuries meant that Wokingham effectively had eight and a half players for the final
twenty minutes.
Peter Killingworth put in a good performance in the second-half, and but for
him Wanderers would certainly have leaked more than the four goals Emmbrook Inn added to their tally.
Wokingham were unable to threaten the home side but kept battling until the
end. Despite their numerical disadvantage Wanderers grabbed a consolation goal when Dave Griffiths looped a late header
in from Prior's free-kick.
