21st October 2007 - Division 1 - Cantley, Wokingham

Wanderers overcame Barn Rangers without having to play to their full potential.

Nick Harding's absence saw Mark Timms make a rare appearance in goal.  Timms was at fault for the first goal of the game, as he misjudged the flight of a ball and the visitors took the lead with a tap-in.

Wokingham struggled to make the most of their early opportunities.  Dave Griffiths fired over from six yards out, and then Paul Martin's shot lacked power after Anthony Prior's free-kick had been parried.

Wanderers found an equaliser with a well-struck shot from Tom Soane.  The angle didn't favour Soane as he broke into the box but he hit a powerful effort across the goalkeeper and into the bottom corner.

1-1 became 2-1 in the space of seconds.  A pass back from the restart saw a Barn defender slip, and Martin showed good composure to round the goalkeeper and score.

The match should have been put beyond the visitors five minutes later but Prior didn't make the most of Soane's good work on the right, and saw the ball flick up onto his arm for a free-kick to Barn.

Timms redeemed himself with two good blocks as Barn pressed for an equaliser before the break.

Wanderers' collective performance improved in the second half.  This saw Barn get frustrated and make a series of late challenges, which in the main went unpunished.

Wokingham added a third goal after Andy Corless rose well to challenge the goalkeeper following a Prior free-kick into the box.  The ball was dropped and eventually deflected into the net by Martin.

Wanderers had opportunities to put the game beyond Rangers as Martin, Soane and Reip all fired efforts wide.

The introduction of Phil Soane and Lewis Trusty gave Wokingham fresh legs and saw the dismissal of a Barn player for neanderthalic stupidity as he lashed out at Phil Soane in frustration.

A poor challenge just before the end saw Tom Soane taken out, and nursing a painful knee injury that may rule him out for future matches.

Wanderers have the chance to exact further misery on Barn Rangers this week, as the two sides meet again.
