30th September 2007 - Division 1 - Lock's Ride, Winkfield

Having lost 6-1 in the corresponding fixture last season, Wanderers were left tasting a heavy defeat again, but in much different circumstances.

The match started fairly evenly, with both sides enjoying a good share of possession.

Twenty minutes in, and Tom Soane hit the foot of the near post following good work from both Jamie Ryall and Paul Martin.

Minutes later and the home side took the lead.  A long ball upfield evaded the Blues' back four and was volleyed past the exposed Nick Harding.

Wanderers levelled almost immediately.  Ryall ran with the ball and then threaded a ball through.  Tom Soane was walking back from an offside position, but Martin raced clear and produced a clever finish to lob the Winkfield 'keeper.

The remainder of the first half passed without any real opportunities for either side.

Into the second period and Winkfield took the lead for a second time.  A free-kick on the edge of the box was blasted into the top corner, giving Harding no chance.

Once again Wanderers found an instant response.  Ryall found Anthony Prior, and his well weighted pass was controlled by Tom Soane, who then hooked a shot past the on-rushing Winkfield goalkeeper.

This looked like it could lift Wokingham to grab a winner, but for a third time Winkfield went into the lead.  A corner from the left headed towards Phil Soane, and as he slipped, the ball fired off his arm and into the net.

Wanderers' strength of character was impressive throughout the game and after a few promising moves, good work from substitute Clint Falcus saw him pass to Tom Soane.  It certainly wasn't a clear-cut chance for the Blues' forward, but he produced a fine left footed shot which the 'keeper could only help into the corner of the net.

What followed in the last five minutes was incredibly harsh on Wokingham.  Defensive lapses were punished on four occasions and the Blues were left tasting a demoralising defeat.

On the balance of play a point was deserved, and Wokingham can at least take heart from their commitment over 85 minutes.
