11th February 2007 - Division 2 - Locks Ride, Chavey Down

Having only lost by a late goal in their home match against runaway leaders Winkfield, Wanderers hoped to improve their own chances of promotion.  Instead they were hit for six, in an emphatic Winkfield display.

The game started as a fairly even contest, with Wanderers passing the ball well, and Ian Griffiths enjoying some freedom on the right.

Fifteen minutes in and the match turned on a moment of controversy.  A Winkfield player used his arm to control the ball but the referee signalled play could continue.  The ball ran through to the forward who finished convincingly past Nick Harding.

Wokingham should have been level five minutes later.  Richard Scott's quick-thinking played in Anthony Prior, who side-footed home.  The referee allowed an offside decision to stand however, despite being awarded against Tom Soane who was some distance away from Prior.

Winkfield increased their tempo and caused the Blues' defence no end of problems with a direct style.  On a long pitch, the Wanderers' back four found themselves with little support as Winkfield struck three more times before the interval.

Nick Harding produced one exceptional save, and several others too, to give Wokingham some slight hope going into the second half.

Shortly before the break, Tom Soane clipped the bar after being released by Scott.

Phil Soane came on at half-time to replace Darren Wakley.

Once again Wokingham started the half full of promise but their opponents were to score a fifth goal as Harding was again left exposed.

Wokingham rallied slightly, and a Paul Martin cross was headed goalwords by Tom Soane.  The Winkfield 'keeper did well to parry the ball away for a corner.

Wanderers fought on, and when another Tom Soane effort was saved, Dave Griffiths was first to the rebound to drive the ball home.

Harding produced several more saves, but harshly conceded a sixth goal as an effort looped over him.

This was a disappointing Blues' display, and their performances must improve if they are to stand any chance of going up this season.
