1st February 2004 - Division 3 - Langborough Rec.

Wanderers faced Bracknell Strikers Reserves, desperate to end a run of five matches without a win.

They started well, and created a couple of half-chances for striker Tom Soane.  At left-back Chris Orbell was in fine form, winning tackles at the back and attacking with purpose when given the opportunity.

Wanderers suffered an early blow as Dan van der Laan O'Donnell and Clint Falcus collided.  Falcus could not recover from his knee injury and was replaced by Jamie Ryall who moved to right-back as Chris Hillsdon moved into the centre of defence.

Bracknell took the lead against the run of play, as a loose ball bobbled on the edge of the area and then smashed past Allan Mellor into the top corner of the net.

The Blues' heads did not drop and they came desperately close to an equaliser before the interval.  A well-worked corner saw Anthony Prior pick out Scott Ford's near-post run.  Wanderers' captain hit a goal bound shot which was chested off the line.

In the second-half Wanderers continue to battle with determination but were struggling to create chances.  Ryall linked up well with Kieron Sherwood on the right whilst Orbell and Prior enjoyed similar success on the left.

Midway through the half Alan Pearce was introduced in place of Lewis Trusty.  Elliott moved into the middle of midfield as Prior took his place in attack with Pearce on the left.  Minutes later the injured van der Laan O'Donnell was replaced by Edward Townsend.

With ten minutes remaining, Wanderers were given a lifeline.  Townsend burst into the box and was tripped, the referee signalled for a penalty.  Tom Soane stepped up only to be denied by the legs of the Bracknell goalkeeper.

To make matters worse, Bracknell clinched the victory in their next attack as their forward ran through the defence and beat Mellor with a low shot.

The two sides meet again next week and Wokingham will be hoping for a much-needed victory to kick-start their season.
