11th January 2004 - Division 3 - Langborough Rec, Wokingham

Wanderers met FC Bracknell for the second successive week and hoped to improve upon their 3-3 draw the previous Sunday.

The only change saw Jamie Ryall return at left-back and so Chris Orbell moved into midfield whilst Alan Pearce dropped to the bench.

During a scrappy opening twenty minutes Allan Mellor had to make some good saves, and Tom Soane twice came close to giving Wanderers the lead.

Midway through the half, the goal came.  Scott Ford crossed to the far post and Anthony Prior slid in to volley into the net.

5 minutes later, FC Bracknell levelled as a corner fell to the far post and was smashed past Mellor and Ryall on the line.

For a short period Wanderers' players dropped their heads and they were punished when Mellor was beaten by a low shot from six yards out, which found its way into the bottom right-hand corner.  2-1 to FC Bracknell at half-time.

Within five minutes of the restart, Wanderers were back on level terms.  Ford passed to Prior on the left, and he cut inside beating two defenders before curling a shot over the Bracknell 'keeper.

This should have seen Wanderers push on in search of a winner but instead they conceded two sloppy goals.  A ball over the defence found the FC Bracknell forward in what looked like an offside position.  The flag stayed down and the ball was powered past Mellor and went in off the post.

Minutes later the fourth Bracknell goal followed.  This time a ball from the right was left and headed in at Mellor's far post from an acute angle.

This saw the introduction of Wanderers' substitutes as Kieron Sherwood replaced Chris Orbell, Edward Townsend came on for Ryall and Alan Pearce replaced Lewis Trusty.  Elliott dropped back into midfield, Prior moved into attack and Pearce took his place on the left wing.

Just seconds after moving into the midfield, Elliott produced a moment of class.  Picking the ball up some thirty yards out he took a touch before unleashing a superb shot which curled away from the 'keeper into the top right-hand corner.

In the last ten minutes Wanderers piled on the pressure as they searched for an equaliser.  Tom Soane had a shot saved and Prior flashed a left-footed shot just wide of the near post.  Then Elliott ran at the defence and played a pass to Soane who beat the 'keeper to the ball and knocked it into the net.  Controversially the 'goal' was disallowed for offside and Wanderers were defeated.
