4th January 2004 - Division 3 - Farley Centre, Farley Wood

Two weeks after their disappointing defeat against Bracknell Hammers, Wanderers travelled to Farley Wood in search of the win which could kick-start their season.

Matthew Elliott came in for the absent Owen Holland, with Alan Pearce starting on the right wing and Anthony Prior on the left.  Chris Orbell started at left-back in place of Jamie Ryall, who was joined by Darren Wakeley and Edward Townsend on the bench.

Wanderers started badly and needed a point-blank save from Allan Mellor to keep them in the contest.

The Blues nearly opened the scoring when Scott Ford found Matthew Elliott, and his cross was turned onto the crossbar by Tom Soane.

Wokingham fell behind after twenty five minutes when a free-kick into the box was not dealt with and was scrambled beyond Mellor on the line.  Soon afterwards it was 2-0 as the ball came down Bracknell's left wing and the cross was tapped in from close range.

With five minutes to go to half-time, Wanderers found a way back into the match.  Scott Ford played in Tom Soane who beat the goalkeeper to the ball and tapped into the empty net.  2-1.

Ten minutes into the second-half and Wokingham were level.  Lewis Trusty crossed into the box and Anthony Prior volleyed low into the goal from 18 yards.

The equaliser should have seen Wokingham raise their game, but instead they fell behind to a shot from the edge of the area, which curled beyond Mellor.

Wanderers introduced Ryall and Wakeley in place on Alan Pearce and Lewis Trusty - Edward Townsend followed minutes later, on for Elliott.

With fifteen minutes reaming Wanderers made it 3-3.  Scott Ford again found Tom Soane and the Wokingham forward made no mistake from ten yards out.

This made for a frantic last ten minutes and Soane had two chances to claim all three points but was unlucky on both occasions.

Wokingham will hope that they can build on their second-half performance when the two sides meet again next weekend.
