24th August 2003 - Friendly Match - Langborough Rec., Wokingham

Wanderers kicked off their pre-season with a friendly against Division 4 new-boys, Carters UFC.

The absence of Chris Hillsdon, Alan Pearce, Chris Orbell, Andy Kinch, Mark Devenny and Edward Townsend meant Eddie Soane and Ian Griffiths featured as guest-players for the Blues.

Wanderers started brightly and took the lead within five minutes.  Tom Soane's low corner was directed towards goal by Anthony Prior and then deflected into the net via two Carters players.

This should have seen Wanderers start to take charge, however the game became scrappy with no side really creating much opportunity.

Tom Soane shot wide when put through by Ford, and then Prior cut inside and hit a powerful shot just over the bar.

The second half saw the introduction of Ollie Bambrough and he came close to doubling Wanderers' advantage with a low shot into the side-netting.

Wanderers' second goal did arrive soon after as Ian Griffiths corner picked out the unmarked Prior.  The Blues striker volleyed powerfully into the bottom corner from 15 yards out.

With 10 minutes remaining Lewis Trusty put Wanderers 3-1 up with a shot from the edge of the box which deflected into the corner of the net.

Carters scored a second goal which flattered them slightly, but Wanderers held on to win.

The only negative point for the Blues was the recurrence of Phil Soane's knee injury, the extent of the injury is not yet known.

SQUAD: Alan Mellor, Eddie Soane, Clint Falcus, Dan van der Laan O'Donnell, Phil Soane, Ian Griffiths, Jamie Ryall, Lewis Trusty, Owen Holland, Tom Soane, Anthony Prior, Scott Ford, Oliver Bambrough.
